Pupuk Indonesia Receives Award for Corporate Strategy & Transparency in Reducing Carbon Emissions

Jakarta, April 30, 2025 – PT Pupuk Indonesia (Persero) received appreciation from stakeholders for its strategy and transparency in managing carbon emissions. The company was awarded the "Green Achievement in Emission Reduction" and "Diamond Achievement in Emission Transparency" at the "Best Corporate Emission Reduction Transparency Award 2025" event. The award was personally received by M. Rozikin Busro, Senior Project Manager (SPM) of Sustainability & Clean Ammonia at Pupuk Indonesia, in Jakarta on the evening of Tuesday (April 28, 2025).
Rozikin expressed his gratitude for the recognition given to Pupuk Indonesia's hard work in supporting the government’s efforts to reduce carbon emissions. He stated that this award is proof that Pupuk Indonesia continues to take concrete actions in its decarbonization programs to support the Government's Net Zero Emission (NZE) target by 2060.
“Pupuk Indonesia has dedicated partners who are passionate about maintaining progress in emission reduction. This serves as motivation for us to continue preserving the environment. Hopefully, our noble goal of protecting the Earth, in line with the mandate of the Paris Agreement, will be achieved,” he said.
Rozikin further explained that Pupuk Indonesia has prepared a long-term roadmap beginning in 2022 through 2060 to ensure that the company's carbon emission reduction efforts are well-directed. This roadmap includes energy efficiency measures, the development of low-carbon production technologies, and the use of renewable energy sources.
The roadmap is divided into two phases. The first phase runs until 2030 with a target to reduce emissions by 4.25 million tons of carbon dioxide (CO₂) equivalent, supporting the achievement of the Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC). The second phase extends until 2060, aiming for a reduction of up to 19.2 million tons of CO₂ equivalent to achieve carbon neutrality.
One of the concrete steps being taken by Pupuk Indonesia is the revitalization of its plants through revamping projects and new plant construction, such as the Pusri 3B project, which will reduce energy consumption. In addition to supporting environmental sustainability, this project will also enhance the company’s business efficiency.
Furthermore, Pupuk Indonesia is also expanding into the clean energy business. The company will develop a green ammonia production facility at Pupuk Iskandar Muda in Aceh. It is also developing a hybrid green ammonia project through its subsidiary in Gresik. According to Rozikin, green ammonia products can play an important role in supporting the energy transition, while also serving as a low-emission industrial feedstock.
Pupuk Indonesia is also prioritizing a Nature-Based Solution (NBS) offsetting program by planting trees to reduce carbon emissions and target net zero emissions by 2060. These tree-planting efforts are being implemented through Community Forest and Agroforestry programs.
In 2024, Pupuk Indonesia successfully implemented its NBS program on 400 hectares of land by planting 120,000 trees. These trees are projected to absorb up to 1,200 tons of CO₂. In 2025, Pupuk Indonesia targets expanding the NBS program to 1,400 hectares of land, which is expected to absorb up to 4,200 tons of CO₂. Rozikin stated that Pupuk Indonesia is committed to continuing this program, aiming to plant 7.5 million trees across 25,000 hectares of land by 2030.
Meanwhile, the “Best Corporate Emission Reduction Transparency Award 2025” was organized by Investortrust.
